NOMINATIONS TO THE MARYLAND STATE BOARD OF PODIATRIC MEDICAL EXAMINERS
Nominations for a vacancy on the Maryland State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners will be made at the January 15, 2014 meeting of the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA). The term of Craig S. Friedman, D.P.M., expires on May 31, 2014. Dr. Friedman is eligible for re-appointment. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) has requested that the nominations be submitted early this year as a result of the Maryland Constitutional limitation on appointments between the primary election on June 24, 2014, and the inauguration of the new Governor on January 21, 2015.
Nominations may be made in writing to the MPMA office prior to the meeting or from the floor at the meeting. A nominee need not be a member of MPMA. The law requires that MPMA submit to DHMH two (2) names for each Board member vacancy. The Governor makes the final decision on the appointment to the Board.
The applicable law (Health General Article, Section 16-202) provides that a nominee must meet the following qualifications:
“Each podiatrist member of the Board shall be:
(1) A licensed practicing podiatrist of recognized ability and integrity;
(2) A resident of this State who has practiced actively in this State for at least 5 years immediately before appointment; and
(3) A licensed podiatrist with peer review experience.”
The nominations/election will be held at the MPMA meeting on January 15, 2014 at approximately 7:30 PM, at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel, Wincopin Circle, Columbia, MD, and all nominees and persons wanting to nominate a candidate are welcome to attend for the election.
