Office of Child and Adolescent Services

The office is responsible for mental health services for children and adolescents within the Public Mental Health System. The office works closely with other departments and child health and human service agencies to improve access and coordination of care for this population. Responsibilities include monitoring for program compliance, quality and building partnership to enhance early identification and prevention efforts.

Projects include:

The Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health Campaign a statewide educational campaign in collaboration with the Mental Health Association of Maryland and other organization concerned with the mental health and well-being of children.

CMS Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Demonstration Grant 1915 B/C Medicaid Waivers:

Waivers would allow at-risk capitation of Medicaid mental health dollars to a care management entity in a jurisdiction to provide fidelity wraparound services to children and adolescents meeting RTC level of care medical necessity criteria. This would allow youth to be served in their home communities.

Child Mental Health Institute

A collaboration between the Child Psychiatry Divisions at University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University Medical Schools, Maryland Coalition of Families for Children’s Mental Health and University of Maryland Evidenced Based Practice Center. The Institute will focus on evidenced based practices for child and adolescent mental health including research into EBPs, EBP implementation statewide, and EBP outcomes monitoring.

Youth MOVE initiative is part of the Children’s Mental Health Institute.
