Office of Health Care Quality
The OHCQ Mission
The Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ) is the agency within the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene that monitors the quality of care in Maryland’s 15,043 health care facilities and community-based programs. The OHCQ’s vision is that all those receiving care in Maryland can trust that their health care facility or program is licensed and has met the regulatory standards for the services that they offer.
We achieve our mission of protecting the health and safety of Marylanders by:
Licensing and certifying the state’s health care facilities – through licensing, a facility gains the authority to operate in the state; through certification, a facility obtains the right to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs,
Conducting surveys to determine compliance with State and federal regulations which set forth the minimum standards for provision of care, and;
Educating providers, consumers, and other stakeholders though written materials, websites, and presentations.
