PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Psychology Department at Spring Grove Hospital Center was established in the Spring of 1984. This took place as part of an overall process toward departmentalization and centralization of clinical services.
Psychologists demonstrate their commitment to Spring Grove's mission through many avenues, including the following: direct clinical services to patients, including participation in the work of interdisciplinary treatment teams; adherence to professional and ethical standards of practice; continuing education; training of interns and externs; involvement in the Center's program planning and evaluation; and performance improvement. Psychology staff also participate in Center-wide and Department committees. The former include the following: Joint Executive, Clinical Department Heads, Continuing Medical Education, Patient Care, Medical Records, Utilization Review, Performance Improvement Steering Committee, and various special hospita-wide work groups. Psychology Department Committees include the Psychology Supervisory Committee, the Psychology Credentialing and Privileging Committee, and other work groups.
Psychological services provided include: initial psychological screening and psychological testing (differential diagnosis, intellectual functioning, organic brain dysfunction, personality organization and various forensic issues); individual, family and group psychotherapy; patient education; consultation; participation in ITP development and implementation; and, supervision of Psychology students. Other services are also provided, such as participation in involuntary commitment hearings and addictions assessment and counseling.
