An ABC Approach to Inclusion Part I

An ABC Approach to Inclusion I
A modern day challenge for many leaders is to create an environment where everyone, regardless of gender, ability, nationality, religion, sexuality, age or race feels valued and respected.
Creating an inclusive work environment starts with the leader’s mindset.  Successful leaders will need to cultivate a “diversity consciousness” in order to flourish in a rapidly diversifying workplace.
This training is designed to be non-threatening, engaging and participant driven.
By the end of the session participants should have a deeper understanding of:

·        Cultural Competence
·
the importance of cultural competence work in general and for health care providers
·        the six stages of the Bennett Model of Cultural Competence
·        fundamental diversity and inclusion terminology

Participants will be asked to complete a brief online survey prior to the training session.

Who Attends:  The class is intended for managers and supervisors.  However, anyone who is interested in the topic can attend.

Employee Relations - Part 1
This is a pre-requisite for Employee Relations – Part 2 (classroom).  You must complete Part 1 (online) before you can enroll in Part 2.

  This online course focuses on:

1.     Understanding the DHMH Employee Relations Guidelines which detail the responsibility and procedures for management to ensure that the rules of the workplace are observed at all times and that employees conduct themselves in a professional manner and that when the rules are breached, consistent progressive disciplinary action is taken.

2.     Reviewing the communication skills needed to prevent the need for disciplinary action through two online courses:

a.      Dynamics of Interpersonal Communication In this course, you'll see why most misunderstandings, conflicts, and mistakes have been caused by communication problems. You'll learn how people differ in communication styles and ways you can adapt your communication to get the results you want. You'll discover how to create change by shifting conversations out of the past and into the present. And finally, you'll learn about the influence of gender on communication styles and strategies to bridge the gap.

b.     Communication and Leadership You've asked an employee TWICE to complete a project as soon as possible, and still the work isn't completed.  You've delegated a task to another employee only to have it done incorrectly. You've sent an e-mail asking for extra help on a project to which you've had several negative responses. What's going on? While these situations could be the result of many different influences, you can eliminate one of the variables by ensuring that your communication style is positive, clear, concise, and to the point. Learn how to coordinate your verbal message to get the best results and learn how to write in such a way that you get the highest impact with as few words as possible.

Who Attends: The class is intended for managers, supervisors, and coaches. However, anyone who is interested in the topic can attend.

Stephen MR Covey on Leading at the Speed of Trust
The single most important factor, the substrate, which will determine the success (or failure), of any organization in the 21st Century: TRUST.”
--Warren Bennis

There is one thing that is common to every individual, relationship, team, family, organization, nation, economy and civilization throughout the world, one thing which, if removed, will destroy the most powerful government, the most successful business, the most thriving economy, the most influential leadership, the greatest friendship, the strongest character, the deepest love. On the other hand, if developed and leveraged, that one thing has the potential to create unparalleled success and prosperity in every dimension of life. That one thing is trust.

Participants in this program will learn:
The economics of trust and its effects on speed and cost in relationships and organizations
How you can assess your credibility based on character and competence
The thirteen behaviors common in people with high-trust relationships
The taxes and dividends that flow from organizational trust
How to restore lost trust

Survive the 10 Toughest Conversations Every Supervisor Dreads
In today's workplace, many employees seem to be guided only by their own personal standards. With the variety of personalities and philosophies that are brought together in any organization, supervisors and managers have a tough job on their hands. It can be very challenging — even uncomfortable — to confront employees about certain issues.

You've probably witnessed it yourself. Perhaps one of your colleagues was dressed inappropriately for work, and you wondered why your manager didn't directly address the situation immediately. At the time, you thought, "It can't be that difficult."

Now you are the manager, and you're the one responsible for addressing these kinds of issues. In your supervisory duties, you realize how uncomfortable and difficult some conversations can be. And if you find yourself dreading these conversations or putting them off, you are not alone.

Avoiding a crucial dialogue can cost you and your organization time, energy, and money. Think about it; for every day that you allow to go by without confronting an issue, you risk declining productivity and decreased morale within your team, customer dissatisfaction, and financial and legal trouble for your organization. If that isn't enough, the stress you feel every day you let the situation continue is excruciating.

After just one hour with our expert, you will be able to:

·        Develop an approach to address difficult conversations that results in a more consistent, positive outcome

·        Keep the conversation moving forward in a positive direction, even when the subject matter is sensitive

·        Plan for possible objection, and prepare to handle it like an expert

·        Handle emotions, anger, and tears associated with difficult conversations

·        Identify the underlying causes of a difficult situation

Who Attends: The class is intended for manager and supervisors. However, it is appropriate for anyone interested in the topic.
